(More customer reviews)This is a clear lacquer mid-coat that goes between your color and a clear-coat. It has tiny particles in it that give it a rainbow sparkle kind of like glitter. It is much different than metalflake and is a unique effect.
I like the fact that it does not to be mixed with a hardner, so you have good pot-life and can play around without worrying about it hardening in your gun for a few hours. Acetone cleans it up perfectly. The instructions are accurate and helpful.
I painted a bicycle with this product over Paint Shop Performance Red and the result is beautiful. I used a 1.5mm tip HVLP gun without thinning and it went on in a nice flowing coat without orange-peel. I think I put on 2 coats of this product followed with 3 coats of their clear. It is very forgiving and can be sanded within hours of applying it if you have runs, bugs, dust or bumps. It dries to the touch so fast that dust and bugs probably won't bother you and you can re-coat in 20 minutes or so if you like. Dry air from your compressor is essential though. You can get foggy paint if the humidity is too high or your compressor air is damp.
It is also an effect that is fairly unique in that it is more of a glitter-rainbow effect and NOT a metalflake or pearl effect. It also isn't subtle. You can see it from several feet away, but the particles are anywhere near as large as it shows on the can label. Nice, but different.
If there is any downside to the product, it is the fact (like all lacquers!) that it is brittle and really needs to be left to cure for a few weeks to gain durability. It dries really fast and you can apply many coats in a day, but it takes a while to "set up" fully. Even if it feels dry, give it a day or longer before it gets handled.
Give it a try - the price is right, it is quality paint that is easy to apply with any automotive quality spray equipment and the results are fun.
